Dr Mikael ”Micke” Ekström.

Dr Mikael ”Micke” Ekström is associate professor in robotics at Mälardalen University. He has a background as a physicist with a master of science in material physics from Uppsala University, at the same university he received his PhD in 1999 with a thesis entitled “Internal magnetic properties of Rare Earth metals and compounds”. Since 2014 Micke is head of the robotics and avionics research group which comprises the fields of reconfigurable hardware, artificial intelligence, stereo vision and dependable electronics in avionics. Micke has for many years been teaching at master level in the courses sensor technique and a full semester project course in robotics. That project course lets students spend a full semester at full pace designing and constructing a full robotic system, last year’s projects may be exemplified with the under water project Naiad (www.naiad.se) and Roary (https://www.instagram.com/p/BCM6prBKT0j/ and http://www.mdh.se/utbildning/program/robotik/studenter-utvecklar-sophamtningsrobot-1.85777). The research group also hosts two 5-year master programs, the robotics-program and the program for dependable avionics and aerospace systems.
